The Labouchere is also known as the cancellation system for reasons that I shall get to in a moment. With this system you aim to win a set amount of money on the even money bets (colours, odd/even, 1-18-19-36) and you determine how much you're going to bet.
What you do is make a line of numbers and the total of these numbers added together is the amount that you want to win. This may be getting confusing already so an example is needed to simplify things.
This could be your starting list of numbers - 1 - 3 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 2 - 3 - 1
What you do is take the left hand number and the right hand number and add them together and this gives you the amount that you need to bet. Using the example above you would take 1 from the left and 1 from the right making your first bet 2.
Now the next part is very important to understand and get your head around. If you win this bet you then cross both numbers off your line. If you lose you add the amount you've just bet onto the end of your line and cross nothing off. Here are two examples of what your line would look like after a win and after a loss.
After a win - 3 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 2 - 3 - Both 1's have been crossed off because you won.
After a loss - 1 - 3 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 - 2 - Both 1's remain and a 2 has been added on to the end.
If you won the first bet your next bet would be 6 using the example above because the left hand number is 3 and so is the right hand number. You keep repeating this process until you've crossed all your numbers off or until you hit your stop loss.
The labouchere can show some fairly decent results, the problem is if you hit a long losing run. When this happens your bets creep higher and higher and once this has happened it can be hard to get them back down again.
For example if you were just sticking to red, it would be a bit of disaster if you got 10 blacks in a row. While you wouldn't lose anywhere near as much as you would with the martingale, it can still be detrimental to your game play
